Warzone: What Is Vanguard Royale? + All Warzone Pacific Caldera Hatch Locations

Warzone’s new Pacific map Caldera will feature the classic Battle Royale, as well as a new mode called Vanguard Royale. But, what is Vanguard Royale and how is it different from the classic BR?

What is Vanguard Royale?

At 09:00 PT on Wednesday, December 8, Warzone’s Verdansk was finally replaced with the new Warzone Pacific map, Caldera, but when players first log in to start playing on the new map, they’ll be confronted with some brand new game modes alongside the classic Battle Royale:

  • Vanguard Royale
  • Vanguard Resurgence
  • Vanguard Plunder

How Does Vanguard Royale Work?

The Rules

The main gameplay difference between Vanguard Royale and Battle Royale is that the circle collapses faster and we only can use Vanguard weapons. There are still 150 players in each lobby, but the circle will close in more quickly. Also, when each circle closes, a new event will begin, which should keep the game feeling very active.

A number of content creators were able to play the new mode ahead of time, and they all seemed to agree on one point best articulated by TheXclusiveAce in this video. He said in Vanguard Royale, the mid-game doesn’t lag like it does in Battle Royale, and the pace stays quite intense throughout. That being said, the new map offers a lot of natural environments to hide in, so it should still be enjoyable for those who prefer passive play.

Weapons & Equipment

In Vanguard Royale, you can only use weapons, grenades, and tactical equipment from Call of Duty: Vanguard. You will not be able to use loadouts that contain any of the BOCW or Modern Warfare weapons or equipment (including the Heartbeat Sensor). So maybe it’s time to get levelling…

Vehicles

A huge emphasis in Vanguard Royale is placed on dogfighting, and gunning down the enemy airplanes. As such, in Vanguard Royale there are a ton of planes to pilot, as well as AA gun emplacements to use, but no non-WWII vehicles. Planes have room for two players and are equipped with machine guns and a sonar that can mark players and loot on the map. This is a great little addition for players who prefer to take to the skies. However, the anti-aircraft guns can be found not only on the ground, but also on the bed of some trucks, so be on your guard.

What about Vanguard Resurgence & Plunder?

Vanguard Resurgence & Plunder work in exactly the same way as they did on Rebirth and Verdansk. The difference is that in Vanguard Resurgence you can only use weapons etc. from Vanguard. In Plunder, all weapons from all games (MW/BOCW/Vanguard) can be used normally.

We think the introduction of modes using weapons exclusively from Vanguard is a great idea. We have over 170 weapons from 3 separate games in Warzone at this point, and it’s getting pointless having so many when the meta invariably leads us to all playing one of five or six weapons. Plus, no Heartbeat Sensor might finally break up the ratty/stealth tactics which have been so dominant since launch.

All Warzone Pacific Caldera Hatch Locations

Mysterious hatches are dotted around Caldera, thirteen to be exact. In this article, we’re going to show you how to locate every single one.

All Hatch Locations

If you’re confused about the Warzone hatches everyone’s been talking about, go back and rewatch the official cinematic trailer for Caldera. Butcher explains how he came to the island of Caldera. His plane crash-lands, and as he wonders the beaches, he finds a hatch. As he opens the hatch and starts to climb down, he says the following:

“The Nazis thought they could keep their secrets buried, but I was rarely far behind. I knew one thing for certain, the world would never be ready for what I found”

Don’t worry if you forgot about this part of the Warzone story, I think most of us did in the excitement of a new map. But the hatches opened when Season 2 launched. Currently, they just reveal single loot rooms, but we expect them to open up even further and create routes underneath the island. These are effectively going to be Caldera’s bunkers.

Hold up, you might be saying, let’s start with the basics: where are the hatches on Caldera? And, how do you open them?

The Warzone Hatches Opened In Season 2

In Season 2, some of the Caldera hatched were opened (hatches 2, 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 14), they are circled in yellow beneath. An audio recording of Morse code begins playing whenever someone enters one of these hatches, you can find the decoded messages beneath.

Docks Hatch

For this one, it’s best to keep someone posted up in the building opposite the hatch. If you do that, you should be fine.

Morse code message heard in Docks hatch: “Facility is able deliver 5000 gallons of N5 gas daily.”

Runway Hatch

The Runway hatch is very difficult to find based on the yellow circle on the map, you can see its exact location beneath.

Morse code message heard in Runway hatch: “Reconstruction spotted battleship 22 miles off the north coast.”

Mines Hatch

Unquestionably the safest hatch on the map, no one would come to this location unless they were heading for the hatch, honestly.

Morse code message heard in Mines hatch: “Requesting repairs at phosphate mines conveyor track.”

Lagoon Hatch

When approaching the Lagoon hatch, it’s usually better to be watching people from the Airfield who failed to take a plane. They usually start heading this way after they’ve looted south Airfield.

Morse code message heard in Lagoon hatch: “Alert all planes on lookout for barrage balloons. Fire on sight.”

Fields Hatch

It’s Fields. Of course, it’s hot as hell, but to the victor go the spoils. Morse code message heard in Fields hatch: “Compound-5 stable in chem bomb tests. Beginning distribution.”

Power Plant Hatch

This is behind a waterfall, don’t be confused. You just need to use classic video game logic and walk through the waterfall to the cave on the other side.

Morse code message heard in Power Plant hatch: “Prototype bombs are in transit, confirm delivery.”

Resort Hatch

This hatch is by the clock tower opposite Resort. It’s not too exposed, but a buy-station can sometimes spawn in the nearby carpark. Morse code message heard in Resort hatch: “Chemical leak detected in hatch 4. Send team to deploy decon stations.”

Unopened Hatches

The following hatches have not been opened yet, but note their location, we expect them to open soon.

Beachhead Hatch

This is one of the safest to access, our advice is just to watch for the big building just north of the hatch.

Arsenal Hatch

Arsenal is a known hot-drop, so you have to be extra careful if you’re trying to get to this one. Our advice is to approach from the wilderness side.

Ruins Hatch

Ruins is one of the safest areas period, so there’s very little threat here.

Peak Hatch

Peak is basically a multiplayer map for the thirstiest teams, it’s great fun, though. This hatch is located in the cave you can jump down in the center of Peak.

North Airfield Hatch

This is a quite one, and one of the best to head to first because you can start the match in quite a dominant position with some height over fields.

Central Run Hatch

Sub Pen is always hot so do be careful at this one, luckily it’s in the nearby trenches, so it’s not as bad as it could be but stay frosty.

What Inside The Warzone Hatches?

The Warzone hatches contain at least one orange box, a few blue boxes, and NPCs who can be killed for Nebula ammo, Nebula bombs, and Personal Decontamination Stations. The hatch rooms all have doors at the back which are currently closed, but these hatches will almost certain be opened up further. You can see a hatch being explored beneath:

If you’re excited to see the Warzone hatches opened, then check out our hub for all things Season 2. So far we’ve uncovered weapons, maps, and even the new Operators.

What is the difference between Vanguard Royale and Battle Royale?

Specifically, there are two major differences between a Vanguard Royale and traditional Battle Royale: … Loadouts can only contain Vanguard weaponry, streamlining the meta for more accessibility and room for experimentation. Expect all weapons around the island to also be from Vanguard.

Is Vanguard Royale only Vanguard guns?

Vanguard Royale is essentially the main Battle Royale mode in Warzone Pacific to match the theme of Call of Duty Vanguard. This means that only Vanguard weapons and equipment are usable in the mode, rendering Modern Warfare and Cold War weapons obsolete.

Can I play Vanguard Royale without Vanguard?

If you want to play Warzone Pacific 24-hours earlier, which is right now, then you actually need to own Call of Duty Vanguard. However, if it’s not a big deal for you to wait 24 hours more, then you will be able to play Warzone Pacific from tomorrow with no need to get Call of Duty Vanguard.

Are Vanguard snipers good in Warzone?

In an effort to find the best Vanguard sniper in the battle royale, Warzone expert TrueGameData did some digging. In a YoutTube video, he compared them to popular snipers like the Modern Warfare Kar98k and the Swiss K31. In his research he found that Vanguard’s Kar98k was actually the best option to use.
