DC Comics Black Adam first-look trailer reveals the Rock in god mode at DC Fandome

DC FanDome Kicks Off with ‘Aquaman 2,’ Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Black Adam’

The online event will include trailers for ‘The Batman’ and ‘Peacemaker’ and give looks at ‘The Flash’ movie and ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods.’

DC FanDome kicked off Saturday with help from Dwayne Johnson, Jason Momoa, John Cena and other stars of the DC Universe.

The online convention, which will also feature the new The Batman trailer, is currently streaming online (watch below). Keep refreshing this story for the latest news.

John Cena’s Peacemaker got first teaser and a Jan. 13 release date on HBO Max.

Cena stars as Christopher “Peacemaker” Marks, the convict he played in The Suicide Squad earlier this year. Gunn wrote the eight-episode series and five of its episodes.

In addition to the teaser, the team brought behind-the-scenes footage that showed Cena cracking up his cast with some of his lines, including the fact that “ass-hat” was his family’s name before they came over to the U.S. and changed their name to “Smith.”

“I was surprised, but I was more than ready,” Cena said about getting the call from producer Peter Safran that Peacemaker was getting his own show.

Peacemaker‘s cast includes Danielle Brooks (Adebayo), Jennifer Holland (Emilia Harcourt) Steve Agee (Economos), Freddie Stroma (Vigilante), Chukwudi Iwuji (Murn) and Robert Patrick as Peacemaker’s father, Auggie Smith.

There’s also an Eagle, who is something of a scene stealer.

“He is Peacemaker’s pet eagle, and he is Peacemaker’s best friend,” said Cena.

AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM

Jason Momoa showed off Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom with a video from his first day on set, where he said the sequel tackles environmental issues and raises the stakes from the hit 2018 film.

“I have so much invested into it. I love this character. I love what it represents,” said Momoa.

Director James Wan said the sequel is a “movie that’s more mature, yet still retains its fun.”

The film returns Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta. The original Aquaman arrived in December 2018 and grossed more than $1 billion at the box office.

“Black Manta is still seeking his vengeance to try to kill Aquaman. That’s going to be something that’s exciting for the audience,” said Wan. “It’s a globetrotting story. We visit so many different worlds. This movie isn’t afraid to embrace its fantasy.”

There was plenty of concept art and behind-the-scenes action shots, as well as fight training unveiled at FanDome.

BLACK ADAM
Dwayne Johnson teased his long-anticipated comic book debut, Black Adam with footage of epic landscapes and sets. Johnson said the project is in post-production, but brought along an opening scene that included military men discovering Black Adam, and the anti-hero turning them to dust and catching bullets.

“This character, this film, this universe, has been a gigantic passion project of mine for a very long time,” said Johnson. “It’s the kind of project I know comes along once in a lifetime. The truth is, I was born to play Black Adam.”

Black Adam will feature the Justice Society on-screen and stars Noah Centineo (Atom Smasher), Aldis Hodge (Hawkman), Quintessa Swindell (Cyclone).

Marwan Kenzari is also on the call sheet, along with Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate.

“He’s more brutal, uncompromising, fueled by the depths of his pain,” Hodge said of Johnson’s character, while Brosnan said even his time as James Bond had not prepared him for the scale of this film.

Black Adam has been long-awaited, with Johnson speaking of playing the role for more than a decade. After being delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, it is slated to hit theaters on July 29, 2022.

‘Black Adam’: Dwayne Johnson Debuts First Look at DC Anti-Hero

Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam has finally come to life.

After over a decade of development, fans finally got a first look at “Black Adam,” the feature film starring Johnson as the DC Comics anti-hero and sworn nemesis of Shazam!

Johnson unveiled the teaser on Saturday to open DC Fandome, the virtual fan event designed to promote the vast ecosystem of entertainment based on DC Comics superheroes.

Along with Johnson’s character, “Black Adam” also focuses on the members of the Justice Society: Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, who can fly thanks to his special metal wings; Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, who can control his molecules and thereby change his size, density, and strength; Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, who can control the wind; and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, an archeologist who becomes a powerful sorcerer while wearing the Helmet of Fate.

Johnson started circling the roles of both Black Adam and Shazam! as early as 2007, as the prospect of a feature adaptation bounced through various hands at Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema. By 2014, Johnson signed up to play Black Adam in a “Shazam!” movie, but by 2017, the studio elected to spin off the character into his own franchise, with Zachary Levi headlining 2019’s “Shazam!”

“This film, this universe has been a gigantic passion project of mine for a very long time,” Johnson said before introducing the first look at the film. “The film has without question some of the biggest action sequences I have ever been a part of.”

That same year, Jaume Collet-Serra, who directed Johnson in Disney’s hit film “Jungle Cruise,” signed on to helm “Black Adam,” from a script by Rory Haines, Sohrab Noshirvani and Adam Sztykiel. After the pandemic shutdown, Johnson shot the film earlier this year.

“Black Adam” will open on July 29, 2022.

Dwayne Johnson’s “ruthless, unstoppable” villain will “change the hierarchy of power in the DC universe”.

It’s been 20 years since wrestler The Rock burst onto screens as the villainous Scorpion King, and now Dwayne Johnson is playing the bad guy once again. In the first Black Adam trailer, unveiled at DC Fandome, Johnson takes on the power of Shazam as one of DC comics’ baddest bad guys. “The truth is I was born to play Black Adam,” Johnson said at DC Fandome before the footage played.

Black Adam premieres July 29, 2022. Arrayed against Johnson are good guys Noah Cintineo, Quintessa Swindell, Sarah Shahi, Aldis Hodge and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate. It’s directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, best known for a run of recent Liam Neeson actioners like Non-Stop and The Commuter.

A Black Adam first look got revealed Saturday at DC Fandome, an annual online event promising trailers, news and first-look previews of forthcoming movies, TV shows, games and cartoons. Among the iconic heroes featured are various live-action and animated versions of Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, the Flash, Peacemaker and more.

Created by Otto Binder and CC Beck in 1945, Black Adam was a bad guy in the original Captain Marvel series published by Fawcett comics. DC later rebranded this old Captain Marvel (for obvious reasons), paving the way for the 2019 film Shazam! starring Zachary Levi. Johnson was originally supposed to appear in that film, but Black Adam was spun off into its own film which he describes as a “passion project” full of “breathtaking ‘holy shit’ scenes”.

Black Adam was meant to come out in 2021 but was delayed due to the COVID pandemic.

DC’s lineup of forthcoming movies also includes Robert Pattinson as The Batman, appearing alongside Zoe Kravitz and Colin Farrell. Underwater sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is also on the way, with Jason Momoa and Amber Heard. Meanwhile, The Flash, starring Ezra Miller as the scarlet speedster, is reported to unite a multiverse of old and new superhero stars, including Ben Affleck’s Batman as seen in the Justice League films and Michael Keaton back in the batsuit from Tim Burton’s Batman films.

Along with The Suicide Squad spin-off Peacemaker from James Gunn and John Cena on HBO Max, DC’s small screen adventures continue with the CW’s Arrowverse shows such as Batwoman, The Flash, Superman & Lois, and Naomi, produced by Ava DuVernay. Animated titles include Batman: Caped Crusader, limited series Aquaman: King of Atlantis, adult animated comedy series Harley Quinn and video game adaptation Injustice featuring Superman as a villain. DC games in the works include Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
