After teasing the solo mixtape for a few weeks, the musician dropped a captivating music video for the same.
Titled ‘Ruby’, Woozi croons the funk-infused pop-rock track in English – “Baby girl you’re making me a beautiful jewel / Every time I look at you I keep turning red / I’m not going back, go colour me like you / My forbidden fruit / She got the ruby lips.” The music video begins with Woozi, who is gearing up for a fashion show surrounded by several stunning models. In the majority of the scenes, he is red suit [which clearly is the reason we need 2-5 business days to process it all]. The sensuousness of the sound, the alluring guitar riffs, and drums, the powerful vocals which Woozi is known for, the playfulness yet classiness of the beats truly delights a listener.
Woozi, who has composed, written, and produced the track with resident producer Bumzu and Park Ki Tae, has often played with genres so it doesn’t come as a surprise that his solo debut is so captivating and seductive.
Woozi becomes another member to have his solo debut release. SEVENTEEN’s vocalist DK released a new solo holiday song called ‘You’re My Christmas’. In 2021, Hoshi dropped ‘Spider’, The8 released Korean and Chinese versions of ‘Side By Side’, Mingyu and Wonwoo released ‘Bittersweet’, Vernon with ‘Bands Boy’, and Jeonghan with Japanese and Korean versions of ‘Dream’.
The agency Pledis Entertainment had earlier confirmed that each mixtape will be followed by a new volume of ‘The Thirteen Tapes’ which includes an interview and photobook. This sort of confirmed that all 13 members will have solo debut.
Seventeen, also stylized as SEVENTEEN or SVT, is a South Korean boy band formed by Pledis Entertainment in 2015.
The group consists of 13 members: S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino.
The group performs as one group, and the members are divided into three sub-units, each with a different area of specialization: ‘Hip-Hop Unit’, ‘Vocal Unit’, and ‘Performance Unit’. Since its debut, Seventeen has released three studio albums and ten extended plays.
Seventeen is considered a “self-producing” idol group, with the members being actively involved in the songwriting, choreographing, and other aspects of their music and performances.

SEVENTEEN’s Woozi ‘Ruby’
‘Ruby’ is an all-English track composed and produced by Woozi
MANILA, Philippines – SEVENTEEN’s Woozi made his highly-anticipated solo debut on Monday, January 3 with the release of his first mixtape Ruby.
The all-English track marks Woozi’s first official release as a solo artist. “It’s a powerful song with a wide variety of charms. It’s a song that has the magnetic pull of the moment when you lay your eyes on a beautiful jewel and are instantly captivated,” Woozi said, as translated by Soompi.
Woozi, who served as the main producer and composer of all SEVENTEEN songs since pre-debut, emphasized that he highlighted a new side of him when he ventured into being a solo artist. “Ruby,” the rock-inspired song, features a different sound compared to the lively and energetic trademark of SEVENTEEN.
“I tried to create music that only the singer Woozi could create. I think it’d be good for people to focus on Woozi’s vocals, which move freely within a colorful array of variations,” he said.
He continued, “I feel like I grew and moved one step up as a musician while creating this song, which makes me very proud. And I think it will be a special gift for CARATs (SEVENTEEN’s fandom), so I’m very satisfied.”
Woozi is the latest of the SEVENTEEN members to officially release a solo track. In February 2021, member Jun released “Crow” and “Silent Boarding Gate,” followed by Hoshi’s “Spider” and THE8’s “Side by Side” in April. Wonwoo and Mingyu teamed up for the single “Bittersweet” in May.
SEVENTEEN is a 13-member boy group that debuted in May 2015 under PLEDIS Entertainment. They are known for their hits “Don’t Wanna Cry,” “Home,” “Very Nice,” “Home;Run” and “Ready to Love.” Their latest group album is Attacca, which was released in October.
