‘Doing the Best I Can for Our JoJo Binx’
On Sunday, Jan. 12 — which would’ve been the Glee star’s 38th birthday — actor Ryan Dorsey shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, including a message about the former couple’s 9-year-old son, Josey Hollis Dorsey.
Alongside a photo of the pair — who got married in 2014 and divorced in 2018 — Dorsey penned a poem for Rivera.
What happened to Naya Rivera
Naya Rivera had taken her four-year-old son Josey on a boating trip to Lake Piru, a place she was familiar with and where she felt comfortable as a strong swimmer with sailing experience.
However, only Josey returned from the 1,200-acre lake. Lake Piru in California has claimed at least seven lives between 1994-2000, its murky waters reaching depths of up to 160ft and hiding enormous underwater trees that can trap bodies.
While visiting the lake, Naya reportedly declined a life jacket when renting the boat, choosing one for Josey only, but staff ensured she also had one on board.
The mother and son embarked on their adventure on July 8, 2020, around 1pm, swimming in an area known as ‘Diablo Cove’. They were due back at 4pm, but when they didn’t return, a search began.
Officials speculated that they might have been trapped in a strong rip current, making it hard to stay above water while also fighting against powerful winds and icy cold water.
However, the exact circumstances leading to Naya’s death will forever remain a mystery.

Speaking with New York magazine in an interview published Tuesday, the rapper, 32, opened up about Rivera’s death and the song that has long been associated by fans with their 2014 breakup.
“That’s a tough question to answer because I’m still processing a lot of that,” Sean said when asked if he regrets the track, which features E-40. “I don’t feel comfortable talking about it because I want to respect her.”
