Emily Blunt : Why Is Her 17-Year-Old Horror Film Finally Getting the Recognition It Deserves?

Nearly seventeen years ago, Emily Blunt starred in a supernatural horror film that may have flown under the radar for many fans. Starting January 1, the movie will stream for free on Tubi, giving both new and longtime audiences a chance to see Blunt’s early work.

A Leading Role That Shaped Her Career

Released in 2007, Wind Chill features Emily Blunt, the Golden Globe winner recently nominated for an Academy Award for Oppenheimer. While widely recognized for her role in The Devil Wears Prada, Wind Chill was her first leading role. Initially receiving mixed reviews with a 44% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has since developed a cult following among horror enthusiasts.

In Wind Chill, Blunt portrays a college student who accepts a ride home for Christmas break from a classmate, played by Ashton Holmes. Their journey turns terrifying when they become stranded on a remote highway after a mysterious vehicle causes their car to veer off the road. As the cold intensifies, they face unsettling supernatural phenomena that blur the lines between reality and the paranormal.

Behind the Scenes: Collaboration with Renowned Talent

Alongside Emily Blunt and Ashton Holmes, the cast includes Martin Donovan, Ned Bellamy, and Chelan Simmons. Directed by Gregory Jacobs and written by Joe Gangemi and Steven A. Katz, the film was supported by George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh’s Section Eight Productions, with Blueprint Pictures handling production.

Reflecting on her role, Blunt shared in 2007, “I wanted to do something physical and challenging, playing absolute disabling fear.” She praised the screenplay for its resemblance to The Shining and its naturalistic, eerie environment, despite not being a horror movie fan herself.

With Wind Chill now available on Tubi, Emily Blunt’s early foray into horror highlights her versatile acting skills and adds a new dimension to her impressive career.
